LIfe saver! : Next Generation 6-Eye Infrared Remote Control Extender Emitter
I obviously have a Next Generation IR Remote Control unit for which I purchased this product. That unit has performed fine for all my devices with line of signal directly from the main unit. But using these IR Emitters, I found it inconsistent. It did not work at all for one of my four devices. Where it did work, it needed to be secured precisely, to maintain it within a very narrow range of position relative to the IR detector. Typically, movement of even one millimeter would cause the Emitter's signal not to be detected.
Therefore it did not work to allow me to remove the native IR receivers of all my controlled devices from direct line of signal, for example, closing them and the main unit within a cabinet. I suppose given a different set of devices, it could have worked with careful taping in place -- your results may vary.
The tape I ended up using to try to position the Emitters would have been needed anyway, as the adhesive provided around each Emitter proved insufficient on its own to hold in my air-conditioned home environment for more than a week. This was despite careful preparation and application at the IR receiver sites.
I think the design needs to be improved at least as far as allowing it to attach more securely, and effectively strengthening the signal somehow in order for this to work consistently with receivers for all devices.
